Doctrinal Statement of Hebron Theological Seminary

The Scriptures

We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the Word of the living God, plenary and verbally inspired by God and with no error in the original manuscripts. They are also the supreme and final authority on every issue of life and faith.
2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21, 3:16; John 14:26, 16:12-13; 1 Timothy 5:18.

God

We believe that there is only one God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each one of these persons possesses the same nature and the same attributes and perfections of the Deity.
Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Timothy 2:5; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 1 Timothy 1:17; John 15:26; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 3:14.

God the Son

We believe that the Lord Jesus is the incarnation of God the Son. About his humanity, he was begotten by the Holy Spirit and conceived in the virgin Mary; and He is true God and true man, holy and sinless.
Matthew 1:18-20; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-14; 1 Timothy 3:16; Acts 7:56.

God the Holy Spirit

We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit. He convinces the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He, once for all, regenerates each one of the believers, baptizing them in the body of Christ, sealing and dwelling permanently in them. The Holy Spirit gives power for the life and service of those who fulfill the biblical demands of submission and total dependence on Him. We believe that some of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, like tongues and miraculous healing, are not valid.
John 16:7-11; Ephesians 4:30; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 5:16.

Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God and by a direct act of Him. Man sinned, and therefore incurred the penalty of physical and spiritual death; because of this, he lost his fellowship with God. All human beings are born with a sin nature and are responsible for their thoughts, words, and acts.
Genesis 1:26; Romans 3:23, 5:12, 6:23; Galatians 5:17-21.

The Work of Christ

We believe that the death of Christ on the cross was a vicarious and propitiatory sacrifice. Based on the pouring out of His blood, His corporeal resurrection and ascension to the right hand of the Father, He provides salvation for everyone and He is the Savior of everyone who believes. He is now in heaven as an intercessor and attorney on behalf of the believers.
1 Timothy 2:6; 1 Peter 3:18; 1 Corinthians 15:3-6; 1 John 2:1; Hebrews 7:25.

Salvation and Assurance

We believe that each person receives the Lord Jesus Christ by faith, apart from any human work, and the person is declared just before God based on the sacrifice of Christ. The believer is born from above and becomes a child of God created in Jesus Christ for good deeds. All the redeemed are kept eternally by the power of God.
John 1:12-13; Romans 3:21-28, 8:1, 29, 30, 34; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 John 5:11-12.

Sanctification

We believe that each person who is in Christ is already sanctified, in other words, set aside for God in regards to his position before Him. God has made provision through the work of Christ and the ministry of the Holy Spirit, so the believer can overcome sin and grow in holiness. The sanctification of the believer will not be completed until the day of the final redemption.
1 Corinthians 1:2; Romans 6:6, 11-13; Galatians 5:16; Ephesians 1:7, 4:30; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; 1 John 3:2.

The Second Coming

We believe that the Lord will come a second time in an imminent, personal, and corporeal way. He will come in the clouds to remove His Church before the tribulation, and afterwards He will return to the earth in the glory of His Father to establish the millenial kingdom.
Acts 1:11; John 14:3; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 3:10, 11:15, 19:11-16; Daniel 2:44.

The Resurrection

We believe in the resurrection of the dead: righteous and unrighteous. The former to eternal blessing, and the latter to eternal perdition. Those who died in Christ pass immediately to the presence of the Lord and their bodies are raised on the day of the resurrection.
John 5:28-29; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52; 2 Corinthians 5:1-8; Philippians 1:23; Revelation 20:11-15.

Angels

We believe in the existence and personality of angelic beings. The holy or chosen angels serve God in the fulfilling of his purposes. The fallen angels, Satan and his demons, are opposed to God. They were defeated by Christ on the Cross and will have their end in the lake of fire.
Hebrews 1:7, 14; Revelation 12:9; Colossians 2:15; Matthew 25:41.

The Church

We believe that God revealed himself progressively in human history and has been forming a people for himself. The local and universal church was initiated on the day of Pentecost and represents the special purpose of God during the present age. Christ instituted for the Church the ordinances of baptism by water and the Lord's Supper.
1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:22-23; Acts 1:6, 2:41, 11:15-16; Matthew 28:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-25.

The Civil Power

We believe that God established the civil authority after the Fall to control violence and to regulate the social responsibilities of men among themselves. The Christian should respect the government and obey the law as long as it does not contradict the teachings of the Holy Scriptures. Every human government is imperfect, but the hope of man is a perfect government, which Christ will establish in His millenial kingdom.
Genesis 8:21, 9:6; Acts 4:19; Romans 13:1-7; Matthew 22:21; 1 Peter 2:13-17; Isaiah 9:6-7, 11:1-10.
